Scholarships
There are thousands of scholarships available for students. Think of it as free money just waiting for you, all you need to do is apply. Every year scholarship money lies dormant because nobody applies, a few moments of your time could have a huge pay off. Just keep a couple of things in mind when applying for scholarships.
1. Read the directions. There is no set application process for all scholarships. Each scholarship has it's own application and requirements. Make sure you submit ALL of the required materials.
2. Please remember, you should never have to pay for a scholarship or scholarship search. If you have questions about any scholarships please see your counselor.
3. The deadline is set in stone. If you miss it you may miss out on the money.
4. Scholarships are not just for students going to a four-year school or who are at the top of their class. There is a scholarship for everyone, you just need to find it.
5. There are several free scholarship search sites available to students. Take 10-15 minutes to register and you can receive emails when a scholarship matches your profile.
6. Check with your parent or guardian's employer. Many companies offer scholarships for employee's children.
7. Check with your employer. Many companies offer scholarships for their employee's including Wal-Mart, McDonald's and Burger King.
8. There are a number of scholarships that come into the guidance office. Check the list as it is updated often. These may be national, local, or school-specific.
9. Check with the schools to which you are planning on applying. Most schools will automatically screen applicants for Merit Scholarships based on the admission application. Other schools require separate applications to be considered for scholarship money.
10. The students who put in the time and effort to apply for scholarships are the ones who will receive the money.
