Educational Programs for High School Students
Woonsocket Area Career and Technical Center
Interested students should apply in late winter/early spring of their freshman year at CHS if they are interested in pursuing the vocational opportunities at WACTC. Students must complete freshman year, earning a minimum of 4 credits and must successfully complete English 9. Students may apply for one of several programs including: Automotive Technology, Baking & Pastry Arts, BioTechnology, Child Studies & Human Services, Construction Technology, Culinary Arts, Digital Media, Graphics & Printing, Health Careers, Hospitality & Tourism, and Information Technology & Game Design. Beacon Charter High School Open to freshman and sophomore students. Beacon offers a curriculum with a focus on business and the arts. Students may apply at anytime and acceptance is based on academic record and space available. For more information please visit Beacon's website.
Johnson and Wales Early Enrollment Program Open to students who will have attained senior status. Students apply in the winter of their junior year and if accepted will begin Johnson and Wales during their fall of their senior year, completing high school graduation requirements while beginning college a year early. There are specific GPA and entrance requirements for admission. Please see your counselor or contact Johnson and Wales for more information.
CCRI Running Start Program Open to students who will have attained senior status. Students apply in their junior year and if accepted will begin at CCRI during their senior year, completing high school graduation requirements while beginning college a year early. There are specific GPA and entrance requirements. The deadline to apply is March 1st. Please see your counselor or contact CCRI for more information. Scholarships are available.
CCRI High School Enrichment Program Open to students ages 16 years old or older this program allows high school students to take up to 2 courses at CCRI per semester. Please see your counselor for more information and to fill out an application. Scholarships are available for students taking fall classes. The scholarship deadline is May 15th.
Virtual High School Virtual High School provides students the opportunity to take courses not available at CHS either during the school day or as supplemental coursework in addition to a student's six credits during the day. Courses are taught online in a virtual classroom. There are AP, Honors, and college preparatory courses available in a variety of subjects. Job Corps Job Corps provides education, job training, assistance with job placement and follow-up support. Students who enroll in Job Corps can earn a high school diploma or GED, train for a new career, prepare for higher education and gain the practical skills they need to succeed in the workplace. Job Corps is free for eligible students. The local Job Corps site is in Exeter, students would live on campus during the duration of the program. Virtual Learning Academy Virtual Learning Academy can assist students recover credits for courses they have failed and are unable to fit into their schedule during the school day. All coursework is done online in a virtual classroom. Please speak to your counselors to see if this opportunity is appropriate for you. Students must complete an application, available from your counselor. Students may take up to 2 credits in VLA coursework. The cost for the 2011-2012 school year is $285 for a 3 month subscription.
Basics Supplementary School Basics Supplementary School offers independent study or tutored credit recovery options for students who have received an FS in a course during the PREVIOUS year. Please see your counselor if you are interested in this opportunity.
