About CHS 2010

CHS 2010 is a town-wide initiative designed to expand and improve facilities at Cumberland High School as well as address the deferred maintenance needs of the 40 year old facility.  Funding for this project and other school related items will come from two bond issues approved by the voters of the Town of Cumberland.  This collaborative effort between the Mayor's Office, School Committee and Town Council represents a true spirit of cooperation designed to construct four new classrooms and a wellness center.  Additionally, this project will allow for the retrofit of spaces in the existing high school allowing for five additional classrooms as well as additional facilities for theater, art music, and technology.

A deferred maintenance priority list for Cumberland High School was updated by the Building Committee.  The projects listed below will help to enhance this aging structure:

  1. Replace curtain walls
  2. Update electrical service
  3. Lighting upgrades
  4. Security Systems
  5. Technology wing upgrade
  6. Removal of asbestos
  7. Expansion of main media center
  8. New windows and doors
  9. Remodel and expand cafeteria
  10. Repave selected areas
  11. Create English/Technology Center in transitional building
  12. Americans with Disabilities modifications
  13. Landscaping
  14. Pool - painting of locker rooms, etc.
  15. Lavatory renovations
  16. Air conditioning select areas (i.e. computer labs, library)
  17. Heating system upgrade

Issues, concerns or ideas relevant to CHS 2010 can be forwarded to the Office of the Superintendent, 2602 Mendon Road, Cumberland, Rhode Island  02864.  The Building Committee normally meets on Monday evenings at 5:45pm.  These meetings are open to the public.
